* = Only “Money Orders” can be used in lieu of CASH if requests are made by postal mail.

GUN PERMIT APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

As prescribed by the Indiana State Police Firearms Section IC35-47-2 House Bill 1176

You will need to bring with you the following items with you when applying for the following permits.

 

FOUR YEAR PERSONAL PROTECTION

  1. One (1) thirty dollar ($30.00) MONEY ORDER made payable to:  “State of Indiana,”
  2. Twelve dollars ($12.00) in CASH (EXACT denomination, please) for the Sheriff’s Fee and Notary Fee.
LIFETIME PERSONAL PROTECTION/NO CURRENT GUN LICENSE
  1. One (1) seventy five dollar ($75.00) MONEY ORDER made payable to: “State of Indiana,”
  2. Fifty two dollar ($52.00) in Cash (EXACT denomination, please) for the Sheriff’s Fee and Notary Fee.
LIFETIME PERSONAL PROTECTION/CURRENT VALID GUN LICENSE
  1. One Sixty dollar ($60.00) MONEY ORDER  made payable to the “State of Indiana,”
  2. Forty two dollars ($42.00) in Cash (EXACT denomination, please) for the Sheriff’s Fee and Notary Fee.
For all permits you will need your valid Driver’s License or ID Card.

For all permits you will need your old Gun Permit, if applicable.

Gun Permit Applications are processed Mondays through Fridays (excluding Holidays).

The Sheriff’s Office accepts applications for Gun Permits for any resident of Hendricks County that does not reside within the limits of a Town or City.  All residents of Towns or Cities must apply for Gun Permits at their local Police Department.

 

Gun Permits are mailed from the Indiana State Police Firearms Section to your home address within four (4) to six (6) weeks after processing.  (Please advise the Sheriff’s Clerk if you have a Post Office Box.)

 

Renewal Time Requirements:

  1. Renewal applications will not be processed by the Indiana State Police Firearms Section prior to 6 months of the expiration date of your current Gun Permit for a 4 year, LAST 6 months for lifetime. 
  2. If you chose to renew your permit AFTER the expiration date, you forfeit your right to carry your weapon until you receive your new permit.
  3. An Application for a New or Renewal Permit does not give you permission to carry your weapon until your actually receive the Permit in the mail.

 

Duplicate Gun Permits & Address Changes must be mailed to:

All Requests and Changes must include a $5.00 (five dollar) Money Order (to the “State of Indiana”) with a written update and/or request letter.
